Missouri Readers Awards
The Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL) sponsors several book awards for Missouri students. Our Library participates in two of the award programs. Ballots will be handed out to those students who qualify to vote around the end of February/first of March.
The "Truman Award" is geared for students in early teens. It provides enriching literature for early teens' personal lives, encourages them to explore new literary genres, and promotes communication with peers about young adult literature.
The teen years are the gateway to adulthood. The "Gateway Readers Award" is for students in grades 9-12. This award encourages students to read literature that is geared for older audiences. This is a different kind of writing than what they have read in earlier years and hopefully they will be encouraged to seek books for knowledge and recreation throughout their adult years.
