History

Some history about Carrollton Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Building.

Another major improvement in the Carrollton School System was started in 1964 when the voters approved by a vote of 1301 to 169 a proposition to issue bonds in the amount of $624,000 to build a junior high school. Prior to this time pupils in grades 7-8 were housed in the Dieterich and Root Schools.

The 7th and 8th grade classes were extremely crowded, and the limitations of these two elementary buildings made it impossible to offer a modern junior high program without another building program.

The gradually increasing enrollment in grades 1-6 also made it necessary to provide additional elementary classrooms. The removal of grades 7-8 from the elementary schools made these possible.

Students in grades 7-8 started the school year in 1965-66 in their new school and had available, for the first time, elective courses in art, home economics, and industrial arts. The facilities permitted the offering of an adequate physical education program. Access to a 10,000 volume library and a modern language laboratory were also available to junior high students.
